Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can range from mild to severe. Whereas, stress is the feeling of being overwhelmed or unable to cope with any mental or emotional pressure.

There is an alternative to the commonly prescribed anti-stress medication. Our products can help to alleviate these symptoms in a natural and calming way. Occupational therapists often recommend the use of calming sensory products, such as the SAM Library Square or the Samboard Sensory Pad as part of their therapy, as they can help to manage and reduce levels of anxiety; improve attention and focus, promote relaxation and provide calmness, whether at work or in school.

These days in this modern, fast-pace working environment adults can often find that the pressure of their job cause increased levels of anxiety and stress. These feelings of 'being on edge' or 'restless' can interfere with their daily work routine. Research has found that the use of a 'fidget toy' such as our Library Square can be discreetly used to help ease these feelings and can help to boost concentration and productivity due to it's calming effect.

Some of the textures on our sensory pads are designed to recreate images of nature which are known to be soothing. When the texture is felt, different feedback or feelings are created and the blood flow to the outside of the brain increases and hormones are released. The sensory needs can be met by one or more of these textures. By touching the sensory board and finding new textures to explore, the body releases dopamine which is a 'feel good stimulating' hormone. The act of touch also produces messages through the nervous system which can then move blood in the brain away from the amygdala, thereby reducing anxiety and stress.
